The corrections officer thought he was being shot at, but it turned out that a thrown paint can had broken his window, the prosecutor said.

The incident occurred on the 500 block of Bellevue Avenue at about 12:20 a.m.

The injured woman was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
